Books About Adoption

There are hundreds of books dealing with “adoption”, “adoptive parents”, “adoption searching”, “adoption psychology”, “adoption memoirs”, “adoption studies” and so on. The following titles are just some of those that Parent Finders has collected and noted over the years. We have also included a few self-help titles.

Many points of view are represented here. Some you may not agree with.  Some of these books are out of date and may be of historic interest only. Many are wonderful documents and important reading for anyone venturing into the world of adoption search and reunion. If you know of a book not listed here that should be, please e-mail the title and the author to us.

We have separated the titles listed below into several categories.  The categories are indicated by “the bracketed letters, G, A and BP” at the end of each title entry.  These categories are merely a guideline.  They in no way judge or dictate which book is best for anyone to read!

G = General Information about Adoption

A = First person stories by Adoptees, and books about the issues and experiences of Adoptees

BP = Stories by and about Birth Parents with focus on parent issues

AP = Of particular interest to Adoptive Parents
